Invasive Techniques Module

Half Day Course

The aim of the Invasive Techniques Module is to provide carers & nurses with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of invasive medication.

The module provides the theoretical knowledge only, the practical assessment of competency being carried out by a suitably qualified person.

It is delivered by a fully qualified Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC & includes: about rectal medication & how to administer, all about buccal midazolam & how to administer. How to insert suppositories, pessaries & applying & removing medicated dressings. How to administer injections, intramuscular & subcutaneous. What a gastrostomy is & the definition of PEG & how to administer medicines via a PEG.

The module is around 3 hours in duration, a workbook is provided and a certificate (valid for 2 years) on successful completion of the multi choice assessment.
