Adult Day Care Medication Module

The aim of the Adult Day Care Module is to provide staff with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of medicines in adult day care.

The module provides theoretical knowledge, the practical assessment of competency being carried out by the line manager. 
It is delivered by a fully qualified Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC and includes:

• About drugs & medicines & the journey of a drug through the body
• Types of medicines & how they act in the body
• How to recognise & manage guidance from allergies & side effects
• All about MAR charts & how to carry out correct record keeping procedures & quality assurance
• How to check in medicines & storage
• About self-administration & the administration fundamentals - 6Rs (the 6 rights)
• The safe & effective way to handle & administer medication
• How to obtain medicines & deal with errors
• How to carry out the correct procedures & policies for reporting any error or incident in the administration of medicines.
• The correct way to administer controlled drugs, inhalers, liquid medicines, creams, patches, eye drops, ear drops, nasal drops & nasal sprays
• About personal products, homely remedies & patient owned medication
• The legal framework of medicines & the regulations governing the management of medicines
• About covert administration

The module is 4 hours in duration, a workbook is provided and a certificate (valid for 2 years) on successful completion of the multi choice assessment.
